Child Protection

The protection and wellbeing of all pupils is our priority at Llandaff City Primary.

In our School, the Head Teacher has overall responsibility for child protection matters and acts as a source of advice and support to other school staff. In her absence this role is taken by the Deputy Head Teacher.

Our School has a nominated child protection governor (see Appendix Z) who ensures that the School has a Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy and that appropriate procedures are in place that are consistent with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures (2002).

Positive Discipline

Our Positive Discipline policy encourages the active involvement and co-operation of parents and staff in promoting acceptable standards of behaviour from the children. To promote good behaviour there is a four "House" system with house points being awarded to children for good work, special effort or caring behaviour. All members of staff can award house points and in exceptional circumstances staff may recommend children for Head Teacher"s Awards. These children are congratulated by the whole school in weekly assemblies following collective worship. There are House Captains and School Prefects (School Council) to help in promoting positive behaviour around the School and in the playgrounds. In cases where children misbehave it is our policy to be positive in our sanctions.

Equal Opportunities

We aim to ensure equality of opportunity irrespective of sex, race, religion, social class or academic abilities. We consider all pupils to be of equal worth and equal value is placed on their abilities, achievements and talents, whatever form these qualities may take. We aim to provide opportunities for all children to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to prepare them for the responsibilities and experience of modern adult life.

Governing Body

The Governing Body is committed to supporting the Christian ethos and ensuring high achievements in all parts of school life. It has a major role in policy formation and financial decision making and is drawn from a variety of local organisations, with most governors representing the Llandaff Diocese and Cathedral Parish.
